The largest island of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia is a very charming place and has developed over recent years as a family destination.
However, the beaches don’t get crowded due to the large size of the island. Apart from swimming, there are many places to see, from picturesque villages to Medieval castles and beautiful monasteries.
Fiscardo is the most cosmopolitan town and is very popular with the sailing community. Other villages worth visting include Argostoli, Sami and Assos.
Accomodation There are many good hotels, studios, apartments, villas and even honeymoon suites to choose from.
Getting There Kefalonia airport has flights from Athens (45mins) and many charter flights from abroad in summer, approx 4hrs from the UK. You can also arrive by ferry, both from the mainland and other Greek islands.
Climate Kefalonia has a mild Mediterranean climate with rainy winters and dry, hot summers, like the other Ionian Islands. Winds are not very strong, even during the summer.
